i agree - the article was great reading .. but just makes me wonder .. just
what will the record comps do next .. they are already in a panic with mp3+
new tech and have no idea which way to turn in that respect and now they are
seeing the revenue being threatened through lack of sales - for example EMI
was holding out for Radiohead new lp - this saddens me that the whole
company is awaiting a new release to try and make its profits ..

wheres the new talent going to come from ? - bands just aren't allowed to
develop and build up a fanbase these days - its all about instant rewards ..
just who is given space and investment for 3 lp's these days - if the first
lp fails then thats it - drop 'em ! just how many lps did REM/Prince/U2 etc
release before they became "profitable"

but this is all part of the flux and flow of the music bizz - kinda reminds
me of the late 70's when everything was manufactured disco - the world was
crying out for a change - and BAM punk sorted it - followed quickly by
2-TOne (HURRAH !!) - so lets hope that this kinda change happens, but i'm a
cynic and suspect that the majors have such a stranglehold that nothing like
that would ever happen again :(

rant over ;-)

cheers
