Two things.
Firstly, the chart isn't done on 'number of people voting'. In other words,
IMBL finishing in 195 position means that was the 195th most voted for song,
not how many list members voted for it.
Secondly, as this was the Virgin chart, there's no sign of the teeny bands
because the music played on Virgin doesn't include them. As you say, the top
ten is an excellent one, some superb tracks in there. Oh, apart from number
4, which doesn't quite make 'classic' yet.
Happy New Year to you all...

in the Virgin Top 500!!!!..."
It IS pathetic... considering that our boys were to the 80s what, say, The
Beatles and The Stones were to the 60s, in many respects! As for 'My Girl'
more deserving of 'Our House' or 'Baggy Trousers' of a place in the Top 500?
Weeeeeeell, I don't know about THAT!! And 'It Must Be Love' only at #195? If
ONLY 195 list members voted for it, where were the other, what, 2, 3
hundred? Huh? H U H ??? Oh well, I guess in a way that makes this list not
very good at cheating hahaha but at least we tried!
The Chapman then continued writing: "...the top ten was....10 The Verve
Bitter Sweet Symphony 9 Beatles Yesterday 8 Led Zeppelin Stairway To Heaven
7 Derek & The Dominoes Layla 6 Eagles Hotel California 5 Beatles Hey Jude 4
Robbie Williams Angels 3 John Lennon Imagine 2 Queen Bohemian Rhapdosy 1
Beatles Let It Be..."
Hmmm weird that some big chart names like The Rolling Stones, Duran Duran,
The Jam, The Police et all failed to get in the Top 10. What IS good,
though, is that NONE of these boy/girl teeny bands got a shout and this is
probably, on the whole, a very balanced, well-voted-for chart, imho. All the
best in the New Year ~ Tennessee Paul
