Hi everyone,

Saw this review of the last Crunch! gig on the Mean
Fiddler website

"Gig Review 14/10/00:

Any band playing this date was bound to be
overshadowed by Crunch, whose fans were well and truly
out in force.

For most of the music fans present, the nights agenda
was clear; to savour CRUNCH and ingest every
ska-stained sample that was dished out. Crunch mania
seared through the Garage, with ex-madness members Lee
Thompson and Chris Foreman at the helm, their talent
for rousing performances resurrected. Ex-madness
singer El Thommo (Lee Thompson) positioned himself
centre-stage, adorned with goggley joke shop eyes,
which he removed to reveal an eye patch, his tongue
firmly planted in cheek.

Throughout the set, Thommo switched on-stage
personalities with schizophrenic humour. At one point,
he wore a policemans helmet, which crystallised his
love of subverting the old fashioned copper
stereotype. Its OK, he assured us, Im a policeman
and you are under arrest. The repetition of this
phrase turned into a song, and the rapport with his
audience remained constant.

Crunchs sax appeal was a powerful reminder of those
good ol Madness days. Every time a song displayed
traces of Madness famous style the crowd anticipated
a cover.

Crunch dont have to prove anything. They already have
dedicated fans that revel in their eccentricity. But
to make a mark on the mainstream, now thats another
thing altogether."

Cant wait til Brighton, see you there!

Luv Sophie -x-
