Well, I'm back again with the next instalment of the Madchart. Many thanks
to all those you who have sent me feedback so far. Keep it coming, I enjoy
it.
And on....
80 (9) {2} <0> Beat The Bride [DNC] [DNC]
Yet another new entry. This song appeared on The Madness and was written by
Lee and Chas. Chris makes a rare appearance on Piano on this track, as does
Suggs. Hammond Organ is played by the one and only Jerry Dammers.
76= (10) {2} <0> If I Didn't Care [NEW] [-]
One of four tracks sharing 76th place is another new song. Written by Jack
Lawrence, who I have to admit to not having heard of. I'm not sure if this
is the same song that David Cassidy took to No. 9 in the charts in 1974, but
I'm sure someone out there can answer that. If I didn't care appears on
Wonderful.
76= (10) {2} <0> In The Rain [45] [DNC]
Written by Suggs and taken from Absolutely. It contains the immortal line
'maybe the weather will change again.... or stay the bleeding same'!! We
Brits love talking about the weather, don't we?
76= (10) {2} <0> Never Ask Twice [79=] [DNC]
A climb of 3 places for this track taken originally from the 12" release of
Shut Up. This song was written by Suggs and Mike. For some reason, it later
reappeared on the 1992 release of It Must Be Love under the name Airplane
76= (10) {2} <0> Victoria Gardens [34] [49=]
Quite a large drop down the charts for the song which was nearly released as
a single instead of One Better Day. Written by Chas and Mike. Two
interesting facts are that the artwork on the ODB single was originally
intended for Victoria Gardens and that rumour has it there was actually a
video filmed for it before the decision was made to release OBD instead.
Now, that would be worth viewing if it does exist. Perhaps Mr. Smash could
enlighten us?
75 (10) {3} <0> You Said [66=] [DNC]
At No. 75 is another track from Absolutely. Written by Suggs and Mike, this
song has a very catchy chorus to sing along to!
72= (10) {1} <1> Terry Wogan Jingle [DNC] [DNC]
The first of 3 songs which only received on vote, but it was at No. 1! I'm
not even sure if I should have allowed this one, but hey, it's by Madness!
Recorded as a Christmas jingle for Terry Wogan's BBC Radio 2 show in about
1982, it's based on Our House and is only 25 seconds long! Appears on the
triple CD The Business...
72= (10) {1} <1> The Business [DNC] [DNC]
...which leads me nicely on to the next track. Written by Mike as the b-side
for Baggy Trousers. This is a first appearance on our chart for this track.
Strangely, its vocal version, Take It Or Leave It has yet to appear on our
chart too. Will it appear this time? Wait and see!
72= (10) {1} <1> Believe Me [44] [DNC]
Believe Me was the fourth track on One Step Beyond and was written by Mike
Barson and John Hasler. John was credited on the sleeve of OSB as Madness'
'Minder'.
70= (11) {2} <0> Madness (Is All In The Mind) [88] [49=]
In joint 70th place is the 'other' side of Madness' only double a-side
release. Written by Chris, it was coupled with Tomorrow's (Just Another Day)
and reached No. 8 in the UK charts in 1983. TJAD was the track played by
most radio stations and performed on Top of the Pops, though.
70= (11) {2} <0> When Dawn Arrives [DNC] [DNC]
A first Madchart appearance for this track from 7. When Dawn Arrives was
written by Lee and Mike.
As there was no No. 71, you've been treated to 11 songs in this latest
instalment! There's no No. 61 either, so the next update will have just
eight songs filling positions 69 through 62! Oh, it gets confusing, doesn't
it!
I hope to get the next instalment out over the weekend, but it's a busy old
time and I don't get much PC time at the weekends.
Until next time.
Goodnight.
Andrew.
