Belated birthday greetings to Mr. Smash. There can't be many members of
internationally famous bands who will take time out on their birthdays to
post a message to a fans forum. Even less that will state that they will try
to play at a fans shindig for no fee! I'm just gutted that I'll be flying
off to Florida for two weeks on the 30th June, and will have to miss the
whole thing. Even if Chas and Crunch can't make it along, I'm sure it will
be a weekend to remember. It just goes to show that the seven men that we
know as Madness, are seven of the best blokes in the whole world. They treat
us with respect, so we should treat them likewise by not entertaining
thoughts of lining bootleggers pockets.
And with that, on with the chart...
59= (14) {4} <0> Rockin' In Ab [42=] [55=]
One of three songs sharing 59th place is this track from One Step Beyond.
For 'Ab', please read 'A flat' as I don't know how to get the symbol on my
keyboard! Written by W. Wurlitzer, I still haven't worked out exactly who it
was.
59= (14) {4} <0> Driving In My Car [35=] [DNC]
This song failed to make our first chart, even though the spoof version
Riding On My Bike did! Written by Mike Barson, this was the follow up single
to Madness' only UK No. 1. It reached No. 4 in the charts in 1983, and
featured the Fun Boy Three in the video!
59= (14) {4} <0> Sign Of The Times [85=] [48]
A climb of 26 places still finds this song 11 places below its first
appearance. Written by Suggs and Mike, it first appeared on Seven.
57= (15) {4} <0> Mad Not Mad [73] [DNC]
Would you dance with the madman? Some people would! The title track from
Madness' sixth studio album was written by Suggs and Chas. A respectable
climb of 16 places for this song.
57= (15) {4} <0> Razor Blade Alley [89=] [39=]
Written and sung by Lee, I'm still surprised by this song's low chart
placing, despite it's climb of 32 places. Taken from One Step Beyond, this
is a true classic Madness album track. Deep and meaningful lyrics. Give it a
listen and vote for it next time!
56 (16) {2} <0> Jennie (A Portrait Of) [53] [DNC]
A fall of just three places still sees this b-side of Sweetest Girl beat
it's a-side for the second chart running. This one was written by Lee and
Woody.
55 (16) {3} <0> Song In Red [DNC] [55=]
A welcome return to our chart (at its original position) for this track from
The Madness. Written and sung by Chas, it featured only three original
Madness members on the recording (Lee, Chris and Chas) along with Seamus
Beaghan and Steve Nieve amongst others.
54 (18) {4} <0> Mrs Hutchinson [23] [23=]
After occupying 23rd position in the last two charts, this track from Seven
falls 31 places. Written by Mike Barson.
53 (19) {5} <0> Rise And Fall [37] [DNC]
The title track from Madness' third studio album falls 16 places on our
chart. Written by Suggs and Chris. If you look closely at the cover of the
album, you can see the Post Office (Telecom) Tower and the aviary at London
Zoo!
52 (19) {3} <1> Mr Speaker (Gets The Word) [93=] [DNC]
A healthy climb of 41 places for this track from The Rise And Fall, thanks
mainly to a No. 1 vote. Written by Suggs and Mike, I think it is the only
Madness track which has lyrics in Latin, spoken by Chas. I could be wrong,
correct me if I am.
51 (20) {4} <0> Keep Moving [55=] [34=]
Hurry up, don't slow down. The third title track from an album to appear on
our chart, and the third in tonight's segment! This song was written by
Suggs, Chas and Chris, who are obviously better writers than they are
runners, as they are the last three in the race on the cover of the album!!
Well, that's it for tonight. We're on the brink of the Top 50, we're only
just over half way through the 106 songs on the chart so there's still a lot
to look forward to.
Until the next time...
Goodnight.
Andrew.
