And so, into the Top 50! At last, I hear you cry! Well, it's been a busy
week and these things take time :-)

50 (20) {3} <1> Blue Skinned Beast [50=] [39=]

Hip Hip, for the non-mover on our chart at No. 50. Another song to have
achieved top marks from one TMMLer or MISer (and by that I mean subscriber
to Rob's MIS newsletter, not a miser!!!!). Written by Lee, this song
appeared on the album The Rise and Fall.

49 (21) {5} <0> Close Escape [78] [39=]

After falling in the last chart, Close Escape makes a welcome return to the
top 50. Written by those Nutty 'Crunch' Boys Lee and Chris, this track
appeared on the album Absolutely.

48 (21) {3} <1> Cardiac Arrest [50=] [31]

A third appearance in the top 50 for Madness' 11th single. Written by Chas
and Chris. This song broke Madness' sequence of nine Top 10 singles by only
reaching No. 14 in the charts, mainly due to Radio One's reluctance to play
it due to the subject matter. I believe it was inspired by the death of
Chas' father from a heart attack. 'Don't you worry, there's no hurry' is a
rule we should all live by. Life's too short to let stress get the better of
you.

47 (24) {8} <0> Benny Bullfrog [61=] [DNC]

In total contrast to the last song, we have a typical jokey Madness song
making it's first appearance in the Top 50. Again written by Lee and Chris
and taken from Seven, this is a great song to learn and sing to your
friends - I'm sure they'll be impressed! 'Long legged, popped eyed,
fat-necked Benny Bullfrog!' And how good a chat-up line is 'Hi my name's
Hunky, how d'ya do?'

46 (25) {5} <0> Swan Lake [21] [19]

A drop of 25 places for this instrumental written by Russian composer
Tchaikovski and arranged by classically trained pianist Mike Barson. This
track first appeared on the One Step Beyond album and was played at the
first Madstock. It's on the video, but didn't make the cut for the album.

45 (25) {4} <2> The Wizard [NEW] [-]

The first new song to make it into the Top 50 was written by Mr. Smash. Only
scored 25 points despite being the first song on our chart to secure two No.
1 spots in the voting. Taken from Wonderful, there's no doubt that this is a
classic of the future.

44 (27) {6} <0> Time [61=] [DNC]

Another Chas song making it's first appearance in the Top 50. Time first
appeared on the album Mad Not Mad.

43 (28) {4} <0> The Return Of The Los Palmas 7 [31] [DNC]

Didn't make it on to our chart first time, but falling 12 places since last
time is the only instrumental Madness released as a single (unless you count
the word 'waiter' and some talking as a song). This track will forever be
associated with the mystical No. 7. It was Madness' seventh single, and
reached No. 7 in the charts. There are seven words in the title and it
earned 28 points from 4 votes, an average of... err.. seven! It was written
by Mark, Woody and Mike.

42 (29) {6} <1> Primrose Hill [47] [DNC]

A climb of five places for this track from The Rise and Fall. This song was
written by Chris and Suggs. For those that don't know, Primrose Hill is in
North London, just down the road from Camden Town.

41 (30) {5} <0> Uncle Sam [48=] [55=]

Climbing seven places for the second chart running is the song that ended
Madness' sequence of 20 Top 20 singles. Their 21st single reached No. 21 in
the UK charts. This song was written by Lee and Chris, and features Seamus
Beaghan on the cover. It was issued in a limited edition 'Flag Bag' version
(which I was lucky enough to buy at the time) which is now worth about fifty
quid!!

Well, that's it's for tonight. The next update will see us start counting
down the Top 40. Can you believe that after all the great Madness tracks
we've had already, there can really be another forty to go!! It just gets
better and better!!

Until the next time...

Goodnight.

Andrew.
