Before I start the chart rundown, I feel that I should just mention that
tonight on BBC1 there was a trailer for Sunday Night's Omnibus programme
about Loan Sharks which featured Madness' version of Money Money Money as
its backing track! How about that then?

I think I'll tease you a bit with the Top 20! This time you only get the
next five!!!

20 (72) {11} <1> The Communicator [NEW] [-]

Another new entry! It's great to see so many of the new tracks making our
chart, it proves that the comeback was worthwhile. Written by the one and
only Mr. Smash, this was track 3 on Wonderful.

19 (77) {14} <1> Elysium [NEW] [-]

And another... This one was written by Lee and Woody and was billed as a
double a-side with Drip Fed Fred, although it was track 2 on both versions
of the CD single. It still managed to finish 12 places higher in our chart
than it's 'other side'. It remains to be seen if it gets a mention in the
next edition of The Guinness Book Of Hit Singles to confirm its chart
placing of No. 55.

18 (77) {16} <2> Bed And Breakfast Man [26=] [DNC]

>From the new, to the very old. Classic Madness. This track first appeared on
vinyl on the compilation album Complete Madness. It failed to chart first
time out, but rises 8 places this time into the Top 20. Written by Mike, I
think it about one time Madness member and friend of the band John Hasler.
I'm sure they dedicated it to him at Wembley in Dec 99, when he was in the
audience. If you own a copy of the Peel Sessions CD, you'll find a very rare
outing with Chrissy Boy on lead vocals. He doesn't do a bad job of it
either.

17 (81) {13} <3> Tomorrow's (Just Another Day) [16] [26=]

A drop of just one place for this song which was definitely part of a double
a-side, finishing 53 places above its partner, Madness (Is All In The Mind).
Written by Mike and Chas, it reached No. 8 in the UK charts in 1983 and was
the track which appeared on Top Of The Pops. The 12" features an excellent,
slower version with Elvis Costello taking lead vocals which, sadly, did not
appear on The Business. My vinyl version is buggered so this is one
recording I would love see released in some form or another.

16 (82) {14} <0> The Prince [26=] [7]

This is where it all began. Released as a single on August 10th 1979, it
spent 11 weeks on the chart and reached No. 16. If you've got the video of
this, you will see some very bad miming, with both Suggs and Woody badly out
of time in the first few seconds! Don't blame them though, blame the Top Of
The Pops producers who insisted everything was mimed in those days. This
song was the only single Madness released on Two Tone Records and was
written by Lee in homage to the man who gave Madness their name, Prince
Buster. As I've mentioned before on this list, my cousin Simon was born on
the very same day that this was released, and he didn't realise it until
last year, although he is a Madness fan. Needless to say, I gave him a copy
of Wonderful for his 21st Birthday last year, and he loves it!

That's it for tonight, next time we'll see the chart through to No. 11.

Goodnight.

Andrew.
