AMBIENCE: Camden is Madness's stamping ground and this
bar is owned by friends of Suggs, so don't be
surprised if your okra gets stir fried by a star, as
he often helps in the kitchen. There should be a
plaque reading: "You don't have to be in Madness to
work here but it helps". The Caribbean cuisine is
fresh, light and bright like the decor, which can
revive you after you've fought your way through the
dilapidations of Camden Town. That said, there's
something a bit dubious about some of the artwork {on
sale} that adorns the walls. The bar is filled with
extroverted twenty-to thirtysomethings in fake leopard
skin coats indulging in Spanish olives.
DECOR: Two rooms, with shopfront windows look out on
to the Camdenorama. The front tables can be drafty as
people whisk through to the bar. Get the table by the
door for maximum pose-abilites.
PEOPLE: Middle-class artists, whose parents bring them
jasmine tea in bed before popping over to the garden
centre on Saturdays. They were out drinking tequila
sunrises until, well, sunrise, so they'll let the tea
go cold and leave a sticky ring on the cover of
something by Bret Easton Ellis.
CELEBS: TQ, Heather Small, Lynden David Hall.
PROFESSIONS: Artists, musicians, dotcommers.
DRESS: Camden Market to Chanel, classics with zany
touches. Wear something that demonstrates your
intuitive relstionship with lines and colour darling.
MUSIC: 1950s and 1960s, reggae.
