In response to Ashley's letter to Bob Timm below at not being able to find Madness on the official band list I too remember trying this avenue once and having no luck. For all the effort R. Branson put into getting Madness onto his label he could have bothered more about the band once actually signed. Admittedly Madness themselves did not help matters from a business point of view only tying themselves to a one album deal, taking any incentive away for heavy or long-term promotion. I.E Virgin make more money from longer record deals and so put more investment into them I suppose. And as I said before the public like to know where a band stand - it's no coincidence that when bands split or show a degree of uncertainty as to recording their sales often suffer. Rather than the usual come and go when we please responses surely a we are still together and will being doing stuff in the future would be a better option.
I also think that Suggs or Carl in an old interview once said that their Japanese Honda City ad (though a classic in my book) was a mistake ther as it was seen as selling out in Japan. Yet we know Suggs does many such less classy ads here/Night Fever - which always gets slated in the press/ and then theres a song called Cecilia and all that came with that.
Anyhow we could and maybe will debate these topics for hours.
Best wishes,
Alan.
P.S. Sorry if I went on but I needed to let this out - as for Virgin & Branson I may get round to complaining to them some day. Even under a new label back catalogue problems would persist.
