So then , Saturday 30th June evening. Around 8pm we start to assemble in fancy dress and the like in the function room for the disco/karaoke. We had folks dressed as a school boy ( our house video ) , robbers ( from shut up video ) , a green worm ( lovestruck video ) , a hippy ( lovestruck video ) , a few geezers doing a 'tommo' and dressing up as women , Night Boat To Cairo style , Fez's by the dozen , a mechanic ( from driving in my car ) , grey all over ( from grey day ) , Crunch! style ( white face & eye patch) , there were mexican hats , braces , t-shirts , checked suits , Genuine ghost train newspaper suit on swanny , home made newspaper suit on Jon Young............... the list goes on including two very very scary masks indeed ! Mr Darren Balsden in his er................outfit scared me to death ! Steve Chapman was the first to sing ( if I remember right ) and indeed the eventual winner of the karaoke ( if I remember right ). There were several fine efforts and a couple of shockers too. Graham & Swanny will want to forget theirs ! but not as much as a couple of rather hopeless geezers from dudley ( sausage ste & alex ). Anyway , too much beer was drunk , loadsa nutty dancing to loads of nutty tunes plus the karaoke too. Phew! Superb stuff all round and it ended around midnight. Then it was all back into the bar with the stereo followed by yet more beer and more nutty dancing. It was fast approaching 4am when the bar had to close. The poor geezer had been serving for 16 hours non-stop and he told me that he couldnt physically cope any longer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The hotel also ran out of lager & had an emergency delivery from the brewery over the weekend to cope with demand you'll all be pleased to know. Anyway , my vote for the 2 biggest drunks were Bex & Vince Foley. Bex went upstairs to do her exorcist ectoplasm impression , then came back downstairs to drink water in her jim-jams. Vince was playing body pinpall up the stairs off the walls. Sunday morning came & most nursed hangovers ! we said goodbyes one by one and drifted away as we made our own long and tiring treks home. The hotel manager told me on departure that this was the best weekend they have ever had at the hotel. She enjoyed it herself ! No trouble , everybody was friendly and the night porter even phoned in to say he enjoyed it himself and how friendly everybody was.
