I know it's a bit late, but for those who weren't there & for those who can't remember cos of the alcohol, here's a review ;

Venue; Yates' Wine Lodge, South Promenade, Blackpool
Date; Friday 29th June 2001

On advice from our organisers, Chris & Cheryl, we all made our way along the road to Yates' Wine Lodge in small groups, to avoid being refused entry. When I arrived, the place was filling up nicely. We all congregated at & around the dance floor / stage. The stage was nicely decorated with a two tone Badness backdrop. The pre-gig music was excellent, with some old classics being thrown in amongst todays chart stuff. Everyone was in high spirits & the drink was flowing freely, the atmosphere was brilliant, I could tell it was going to be a good night ! One more beer & I was ready for it, camcorder at the ready !

Then it was time for the Badness - first came the starwars intro, then the Band appeared to raptures of cheers & started with the customary instrumental - just like the "real" Bad Manners - "Echo 4 + 2". The dancing started, but this was just a warm up, cos then appeared Mike Watts, the singer, in his imitation newspaper suit (not a patch on yours Swanny ;o)) - or yours Jonathon ;o))). It was go mental time as he burst into "THIS IS SKA !!!" The place was bouncing now.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better - it did ! The first Madness song of the night - a brilliant version of "House of Fun". This was followed by many a Madness classic ; "Embarrassment" - one of my faves so the camcorder was passed on so I could do some nutty dancing - not that it had stopped me earlier of course ; "My Girl" - another cracking version, I can rememder playing piano on someones head during the piano solo ;o).
"Swan Lake" - Simesy tried to get us up on stage to re-enact the headbutting routine but was thwarted by the bouncer, who looked like something out of The Addams Family, with his shaved head & stitched up eye - we weren't messing wi him ;o). Then came "Rockin' in Ab" - I went walk about with the camera here to try & capture the atmosphere on the floor & to get as many faces as poss. on vid.
Next came the song of the night, for me - "Lovestruck" - and they performed it brilliantly, with a little help from Simesy who had sorted em out with the lyrics - Mike Watts also dedicated the song to him. The dancefloor was just MAD during this. It was then followed by "The Prince" before Mike Watts departed for a break & made way for BUSTER BEEFBURGER !!!...............to be continued !

cheers the noo.................Rob W.
