Hiya Sarah et al

Speaking for the London area, the best selection of
'unusual' Docs on display is the Covent Garden store,
but if buying them here expect to pay the full market
price.

For cheap Docs, the best places I know are the stall
in Camden Market closest to the Electric Ballroom,
although beware as some of the Docs here are second
hand and the rest are apparently seconds (i.e. will
have some manufacturing fault).

Another cheap place is the top floor of Shelleys at
Oxford Circus, they always have a selection of Docs in
the sale and if youre lucky you can get some real
bargains. For instance I managed to get some The Lot
coloured suede Docs here for 20.00, some newspaper
print Docs for 15.00 and some black and white brogue
Docs (like those Suggs wore in some of his videos) for
5.00 !!!

Nevertheless, the best place to get Docs still has to
be The British Boot Store in Camden (formerly known as
Holts). Contrary to popular belief, this is still
owned and run by the Holts family the bloke who
currently serves in the shop being Alan Holts (of The
Prince / Sun and the Rain fame) grandson. Their prices
are slightly cheaper than the Covent Garden store and
they do keep a massive range of Docs in all available
sizes in their stock room (if they dont have em, they
dont make em!). They also usually have a sale on of a
few styles too. Not only do you get excellent customer
service here, but they dont even mind if you write on
their Madness poster covered walls (now you cant say
fairer than that!) but seriously do get your docs
here if you can as you are helping the survival of a
very long established family business (at least until
the bulldozers move in to redevelop the tube station!)

As for custom made Docs yeah, some places do sell
them painted up a bit, otherwise it involves a can of
paint + paint brush!
