A really thought provoking article, not that I agree with all that was said but a really interesting read none the less.
Yeah Vince, would have been hard to miss the recent coverage given to the Duran Duran reformation. Last week there were full page articles with colour pics in nearly all of the national UK newspapers and all because they are looking for a new record deal. Perhaps its time for Madness to be looking for a new PR agent! As for greatest hits re-issues, I cannot think of any band that does not have the option to veto releases that their record company wishes to put out against their wishes particularly endless greatest hits re-releases. I find it impossible to believe that Madness do not have the same powers. What is far more likely is that they simply choose not to object and for a very simple reason: Wonderful, which was months / years in the making has sold less than 60,000 copies, however The Heavy, Heavy Hits, merely a re-issue of Divine and requiring virtually nil additional input from the band, sold over 100,000 copies. Its great to see the Madness marketing machine grinding back into action too. The new Musical opens in just over 2 months and do we see direct promotion to capacity crowds via Madstock style summer concerts? No, but you can catch the band playing in Holland or Spain if youre in the area. It was also almost inevitable that the opening of the Musical has already suffered some all too familiar date change shenanigans as well, youd think theyd have sorted this out before selling the tickets! But hey, it wouldnt be the Madness we know and love without all of this; Everything has changed er, I dont think so! Chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
