I have to agree.

Some of the remarks are those infamous one-liners, some are insulting and
some are surprisingly stark in contrast to what many other non-Madness fans
are saying, journo's included.

But we have to remember that everyone is entitled to an opinion and things
like this were warned about due to the fickleness of the Theatre going
public, particularly in certain area's of the UK where that "class" of
people are in a world unto their own. The arty world, particicularly the
where the critics come from, is a cut-throat one, and as such the general
consensus amongst the press was pretty good. Very good from the tabloids
and magazines, not quite so good from the broadsheets.

Don't think for a minute though that I give a damn what reviewers say. I
would never judge going to see a show or film or concert based on what any
critic has to say. If you like the sound of it - just go. It's that simple.
And that's what I would say to anyone who asked me, even though I've yet to
go myself, but wil manage to soon.

Another thing to bear in mind is that it is common knowledge that Madness,
despite the apathy of constant re-issueing of old material, are still held
generally in good favour by the British music-loving public. Not seriously
mind you, but Madness are still that wee gem reminding us of a golden era
that does cross over defining borders such as race, musical taste and of
course it spans many generations. And it is these people, who stand at
parties saying "Oh yeah remember them! I loved that song Baggy Trousers.
Wait - Ive got a CD here somewhere......". These are the ones who need a
nudge to get out there. Not your stuck-up toff's from Knightsbridge who
think the Turner Prize actually means anything. These people's opinions, I
grant you, don't count in that they were never likely to be seen standing
in the mosh pit at Finsbury Park. Much of their attendance at shows like
this is a status thing, not the love of a show or it's music. Nevertheless
some of them hold much sway, away from the internet notice-boards, and so
their comments while unpopular with us, should not be ignored.

Mr.G
