It was an honor to celebrate with so many hard-working PDA activists and volunteers, and it made me proud that PDA and I have worked so closely together over the dark days of Bush/Cheney's second term, and the hopeful but difficult struggles of the first six months of the Obama Administration. PDA has fought fiercely for the principles of peace and justice over these past 5 years, speaking truth to power no matter who was in charge. When the Congressional Out of Iraq Caucus pushed to get out of Iraq by cutting off the funding for the war, PDA was right there by our side. As we fought to investigate the unconstitutional behavior and crimes of the previous administration, PDA fought on the front lines. And now, as we struggle to end the war in Afghanistan and pass 'real' healthcare reform, PDA is still standing strong, still pushing for real solutions to real problems. The fact is, I got so energized by all we've accomplished, and everything we're going to continue to fight for in the coming years, that I did something that incumbent officials rarely do--I got out my checkbook and wrote a $2,000 donation to PDA!!!
