There are now 1,718 signatures. Saturday November 28. The Standing Committee on Health meets Monday, NOV 30 to discuss the appointment of the Vice-President of Pfizer to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Governing Council (boy, this gets my adrenalin pumping mad). Our network got into the question of the CIHR a few years ago. They are a vehicle through which public money gets funneled to the pharmaceutical (biotech) industry, Big Pharma. The criteria for funding includes that the research has the potential to become commercialized. Therefore, research into removal of the causes of disease (the public interest) is COMPLETELY lost, or is paid lip service. We're paying for it. I signed the online petition and told them it would be a good idea to leave the VP of Pfizer on the Governing Council because it confirms that Health Canada has been run by the pharmaceutical industry for some time, there is a revolt in the making, and the VP's continuation on the Council will bring more people into the resistance - we will in time bring an end to this corporatist form of governance. I bit my finger and didn't use any swear words.
