I don't know of the correct upstart incantations to upstart to make it
keep lightdm alive but it should be one of the very last things to
shutdown. We should probably notify lightdm that shutdown has started so
it closes any sessions but I'm not sure what the best method of doing
that is. A signal like SIGUSR1 is probably the traditional method
(yuck!)

  When you long-press power and choose shutdown, the screen goes black
  and you never know when it actually did shut down. We need to make
  sure unity-system-compositor isn't shut down too early.
