i've actually uninstalled ubuntu from my nexus 4. i wanted to listen to the music i already had on my device instead of copying it again just so ubuntu could see it. you are correct, its only application is in dual booting android with ubuntu which i guess is not going to last (or its already gone, i haven't really followed the updates)
