The real bug is probably in ofono, see the output of list-modems from a device without a modem and ofono running:
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/15024416/ So I think the real bug is that ofono reports a /ril_0 without any interfaces or features Connectivity API could work around this by assuming the modem isn't real if those values are NULL, but I think it's really an ofono bug. ** Also affects: ofono (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-network in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1545005 Title: system settings displays 'cellular' control panel item when no modems are present Status in Canonical System Image: New Status in connectivity-api package in Ubuntu: New Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu: New Status in ofono package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: In bug #1541588 several items were removed from system settings for tablets which have no cellular modem. In a related bug #1544712 ofono must still be present on such devices, in order for location to work. It seems that when it was tested, the landing for bug #1541588 happened when ofono was not running. I conclude therefore that the decision to display/not display cellular is keyed merely on the presence of ofono, rather than, say the count of modems ofono reports.
