You have been subscribed to a public bug:

recent changes in GNU grep are severely broken and cause that the built
of the German dictionary will be broken. You should update to
igerman98-20160407 to detect that and work around using busybox as
proposed by the built of it.

I would actully highly recommend to downgrade GNU grep to 2.22 for the
Ubuntu 16.04 LTE release because later versions of GNU grep will  most
likely cause a lot of other problems also.
