This still happens, and actually spikes in ~90% cpu. But its completely
transient, dropping back to ~2% pretty quickly. This happens only
through the animation & transition and frankly I would have expected
this. Transitional animations are just bursty & "expensive" operations
(both on cpu & gpu). In order to achieve the nice UX experience with the
smoothness & snappieness that we have, I'm not sure we can consider this
a bug.

  Opening the dash preview causes high CPU usage

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  1) Open a adb shell and run the command top
  2) Navigate to the dash and press and hold a application icon to open its 
preview
  3) Notice in the terminal that the process unity8 jumps to around 75% on a 
Nexus 4
  4) Notice the CPU usage usually stays at the same level even after the 
preview is dismissed
