I have confirmed this works using another laptop. When plugging this into my Ubuntu machine (Dell XPS17) the monitor is not detected. There is no screen flash or anything in the Xorg log or dmseg that suggests the port has been plugged in. I also have bumblebee installed however I understand that on this machine the mini display port runs from the intel chip so this should not be impacting this issue.
