LibreOffice is written using Swing and there are two plugins: one for
gtk2 and one for gtk3. I've noticed that no matter what icon set is used
the gtk3 theme is too dark. In other places like in the configuration
dialogues the text is only slightly brighter than the button background
and is virtually unreadable.

It would be nice if LibreOffice were written using SWT by Eclipse
instead so that it wraps the native system libraries of gtk2/3.

Also I sometimes wonder if the Ubuntu theme system is due in for an
overhaul. I've tried Ubuntu with alternative themes (the ones I thought
recommended) and they don't even look right on Ubuntu.
