Unity 8 freezes after log on

Bug description:
When I switch to Unity 8 in the lock screen in Ubuntu 16.04, and try
to log on the system freezes. I can move my mouse, but I do very
little. I end up having to pull the plug on the machine. I have
followed the instructions on the Ubuntu website to install it. Any
suggestions? I am using the latest development release and I expected
it to bring me straight to the main screen.
