Also affects me. I am using:

Operating System: Ubuntu 16.10
Kernel: Linux 4.8.0-34-generic
Dell XPS 15 9550

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If I play with the alsa mixer
settings and pavucontrol I can get it to work. I've noticed that putting
the computer to sleep sometimes allows it to detect headphones for a
bit, but doing things like upgrades resets it. I can't quite figure out
what works cause sometimes just restarting it makes it work suddenly.

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Sound works on laptop speakers, but there is no sound coming from the
headphones jack. The laptop keeps playing from its own speakers
instead of using the headphones I've plugged in.
