The "black or blinking" is Xmir GLX bug 1510025.
So the real bug here as dinamic points out, is that Xmir is in the snap.
It should not be running Xmir and should not come with Xmir.

Bug description:
STORY: with the latest version of unity8 snap I have a black screen
when opening terminal app and the screen blinks if you type something
or press mouse buttons
Environment: Zesty
STEPS:
1º Install latest unity8-snap-install(with unity8-session 448)
2º Enter unity8-session snap
3º Open terminal-app
Current result: terminal app window is black
Expected result: should show the terminal app like if it is open in unity7
