Wayland is supported, although maybe we (the maintainers in Ubuntu) do
not have much time to test it.

For the crash, please either report it via apport, or obtain the stack
trace manually with the dbgsym packages installed and attach it to a new
bug.

  qt5 application wrong popup position on wayland native

Status in qtbase-opensource-src package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  1- log in using gnome wayland session
  2-set environment variable export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland-egl
  or use switch -platform wayland for qt app
  3- start a qt application for ex: "qtcreator -platform wayland"
  4- click on menu or make a contextual menu to appear. 
  => They appear on left edge of screen not where they should on the application
