But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997791 Title: sound volume set prior to login is reset after login Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Steps to reproduce: - go to a silent place such as a biblioteque with your laptop - turn the laptop on - Before logging into Ubuntu, at the login screen, lower the volume to the minimum or mute it - insert the password and log in Expected behavior: - the volume you just set should be kept throughout the login, so that when the welcome sound plays it plays at 0 volume or muted. This is the ONLY way to turn on your computer silently (most laptops produced in the last 10 years or so, don't have a hardware volume control) Observed behavior: - Immediately after login the volume is reset to its saved value (or is it to 100% by default?), so when the welcome sound plays it plays loud (at least if your volume was loud prior to turning off the computer) and you have NO WAY to quickly lower the volume, because when it plays the system is loading and it will be pretty slow to respod even if you try to turn the volume down very quickly. Every body will look at you with hate and/or contempt. There's no use in being able to set the volume prior to logging in if it is not kept after logging in (what sound is going to play before logging in, anyway??) The saved volume should be loaded prior to logging in, at startup, and the volume manually set by the user after startup prior to login should be kept after logging in. There MUST be a way to boot the system silently regardless of whether or not you lowered the volume prior to shutting it down.
