Title:
[Intel Eaglelake HDMI] 10.10rc line in problem with gnome-volume-
  control

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
New build direct to the release candidate of 10.10
I have an audible audio source on 'line in'

  ben@akira:~$ gnome-volume-control

  hardware tab:
set to 'analog stereo duplex' and 'test speakers' works (as does other audio
playback)

  input tab:
connector 'line in'; input volume set to 'unamplified'
'input level' is showing the audio signal on the source; so I know it can
hear my source.

I fixed it with amixer; here's abridged status with the gui set as
  above

  ben@akira:~$ amixer
  Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined penum
    Playback channels: Mono
    Limits: Playback 0 - 31
    Mono: Playback 31 [100%] [0.00dB] [on]
  ..
  Simple mixer control 'Front',0
    Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 31
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [0.00dB] [on]
    Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [0.00dB] [on]
  ..
  Simple mixer control 'Line',0
    Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 31
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-34.50dB] [off]
    Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-34.50dB] [off]

note here that the level on 'line' is set to zero, and it is also muted.
neither of these is indicated by the GUI

  ben@akira:~$ amixer sset 'Line',0 unmute
  Simple mixer control 'Line',0
    Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 31
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-34.50dB] [on]
    Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-34.50dB] [on]
  ben@akira:~$ amixer sset 'Line',0 0dB
  Simple mixer control 'Line',0
    Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 31
    Mono:
    Front Left: Playback 23 [74%] [0.00dB] [on]
    Front Right: Playback 23 [74%] [0.00dB] [on]

  the source is then heard.
