had success for a short time recording sound from monitor using guide
from
wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio#Lucid_Lynx_10.04_and_Maverick_Meerkat_10.10,
but shortly thereafter lost both recording and vu meter when trying to
record streaming video using recordmydesktop
