I have never used the gdebi/firefox method that is talked about but I do use gdebi to install packages that are available only manually such as plexmediaserver.
It can still be used by opening gdebi first from the "Activities" menu top left then using "File -> Open" menu item, but I can not find it after a right click on a .deb package ->Open with menu so there is no way to set it as the default application to open .deb packages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gdebi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1719746 Title: gdebi 0.9.5.7+nmu1ubuntu3 broke being able to open .debs on default Ubuntu desktop Status in gdebi package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gdebi source package in Artful: Confirmed Bug description: I don't use gdebi but this commit looks wrong: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/0.9.5.7+nmu1ubuntu3 See https://lintian.debian.org/tags/desktop-mime-but-no-exec-code.html https://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry- spec-latest.html#mime-types (Do not be confused by the Type=MimeType deprecation.
