Well, it's 06-16-2018 and we're up to Xubuntu 18.04 and this problem has not been addressed.

Once the password is entered, the main window will then appear on display :0.1. All the components of a given program should be display-environment-aware. There are a number of system applications that have similar problems. I'll report them as I continue to encounter this problem.
