hello daniel,

thanks for your response. i'll try to work through your list. i'm
presuming that i must use the terminal to search crash logs. so far, i
can't get the terminal to recognize my commands. i'm presuming i must
use sudo commands to get access to the files. however, no combination of
commands i've used so far get me in to the crash logs. do you have any
ideas for me? also, one more hint. when restarting my computer and
firefox, an unprompted ad block plus page is opening, telling me that ad
block plus has been installed. however, i haven't added any abp
installations since upgrading to 18.04 a few weeks ago( abp carried over
from 16.10 which was previously my os). more and more of the sites i
visit recognize the abp and require me to delete it before they'll allow
me to access their site. i'm wondering if i should delete the program
altogether and reinstall.

thanks again for responding to my problem. paul retallack

Title:
info about bug appeared on screen earlier today

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
i was watching hawaiian volcano videos this morning and the screen
locked up. i restarted the computer and the error message
appeared(error with 18.04 was the message). however, prior to that,
grub appeared to show a problem beginning to form about a week ago.
grub used to be a short startup leading to give me a choice of which
hard drive i wanted to begin with(1 tb wd black and a 250gb samsung
ssd. both drives have linux 18.04, one ubuntu and one kubuntu. only
the ubuntu is acting up. for the past two days, grub is showing me
every line of the startup process, although the ubuntu is otherwise
starting normally. i know enough to enter code correctly in the
terminal(e.g. sudo apt-get upgrade etc) and like the simplicity and
independence of linux but regret that i must have the code spelled out
for me if mistakes are to be avoided. i'm old and don't mind admitting
it. hope this helps. cheers. paul.
