this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and cups have been updated since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run
the following (only once):
apport-collect 1268369
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Bug description:
I was installing upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 when I Had to
rebbot before entire completion of the process I think.
This might be the cause of the problem.
After the first reboot (after the tentative of upgrade) I had no
launcher nor upper icons on the screen.
I rebooted in fail-safe mode and :
1- rebuilt the grub
2- repaired the broken paqquets
I must say I'm quite new on Ubuntu (3 weeks).
