Public bug reported:

After 18.04 upgrade headphones (simple earphones with microphone via the
audio jack) are no longer detected. ACPI detects the microphone but not
the headphones:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:        18.04

$ acpi_listen
jack/microphone MICROPHONE unplug
jack/microphone MICROPHONE plug

Headphones do not appear in the list of audio devices when plugged in.

No physical problems with the headphones or the Jack otherwise (dual-
boot, tested with Windows).

I tried resetting alsa and pulseaudio to no avail. Not sure if "re-
install" preserves existing configuration files tough, so I'd appreciate
some pointers for a complete reset if necessary.

Thank you!
