[AV200 - Xonar ST] no sound from any app

Bug description:
alsa 1.0.23 on ubuntu desktop 10.10
Every other time I want to listen to music there is no sound. It does not
work in any app. Sometimes a reboot will help. Once removing the .pulse
directory and rebooting helped. Currently nothing seem to help.
