Title:
[Realtek ALC892] Audio skips with intensive i/o like copying files
Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I've got a practically brand-new AMD Phenom II X4 965 system with a
RAID 1 mirror of two SATA-II drives and onboard audio running a clean
install of Maverick.
When I copy a large folder of pictures or something to another folder
on the same array, I get random hiccups in the audio.
This computer is quite fast and I imagine the software should be quite
mature- so I don't know why I wouldn't be able to listen to music with
Rhythmbox while copying files. At most, I also have Chromium and/or
Firefox sitting idle in the background doing nothing intensive.
Given prior experience, I'm inclined to believe this is a problem with
pulseaudio, not alsa, but I don't know how to figure that out, and
Ubuntu audio isn't really usable without pulseaudio anymore. (I tried
bypassing pulse and just using straight alsa with this machine running
Lucid. It was not pretty and ended in me wiping the machine.)
