Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I try to open sound through system --> preference --> sound, it provides an error "waiting for sound system to respond". System sound works as evidenced by beep upon system startup but no other sound is possible. Sound is not muted in any program. Everything else works fine. I am using Ubuntu 10.04LTR. Sound has not been working since soon after I upgraded, I've just been trying different fixes since to no avail.
