This bug still affects me and no fix or workaround in sight. That is
quite annoying. Do you have any suggestions?

Title:
HDMI audio device doesn’t appear in sound config

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
If I plug in a audio capable HDMI monitor, I used to change the audio output
device to HDMI using the regular audio settings dialogue. For some weeks, this
device has disappeared. I can only chose the internal speakers for audio output.
I’m not quite sure but this bug could have appeared after dist-upgrading to
14.04.
