Title:
alsa driver snd-ice1724 does not load for Shuttle SN25P onboard sound
  chip

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
dmesg says this about loading the snd-ice1724 driver on my Shuttle
  SN25P system:

  ICE1724 0000:06:06.0: PCI INT A -> Link[APC3] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
  ice1724: Invalid EEPROM (size = 255)
  ICE1724 0000:06:06.0: PCI INT A disabled
ICE1724: probe of 0000:06:06.0 failed with error -5

In the alsa sources there is a file, vt1720_mobo.h, that looks like it
specifically defines the settings for this system. The problem looks
like the subvendor ID in that file is different than the one my system
  has.

Here is some of the lspci info for my system about this sound chip:

  ~# lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio"

There is a hack that I couldn't get to work at
  http://forum.soft32.com/linux2/Sound-Chip-IC-Ensemble-ICE1724
  -Envy24HT-ftopict23784.html.

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and alsa version is 1.0.24+dfsg-0ubuntu2.

I expected Ubuntu to automatically recognize the sound chip and
  properly load the driver.
