Title:
IEC958 output stopped functioning after kernel update

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I've done some troubleshooting on this and have narrowed the problem
down to a kernel update. If I boot my system with kernel 2.6.35-24,
the digital audio optical output (identified as IEC958 in the sound
  preferences panel) functions properly.

After running a kernel update from update manager (2.6.35-25) the
output stopped working. I have also tried the kernel update in
proposed (2.6.35-26) and the output still does not work.

Something in the change from 35-24 to 35-25 seems to have made this
one particular output not function. I'd like to point out that HDMI
digital audio output does still seem to function properly on all
kernel versions, it is only the optical output that has been affected.

This is Ubuntu 10.10, 64 bit, on a system using an Intel DH57JG
motherboard. I believe other systems may be affected after reading
some posts on the Ubuntu Forums with similar issues.
