HDMI / Displayport option disappeared from "Play sound through" -list

Bug description:
I want to route audio via HDMI cable. There is no "HDMI / Displayport"
option in Play sound through list.
I have used the routing before with this same computer and ubuntu
12.04 and it did work.
Strangely, the option reappeared while I ran apport-bug to report this bug.
Did the bug collector somehow reset the audio HW?
