Title:
  Microphone not working in 12.04

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have a Toshiba Tecra 64 bit machine with Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit) upgraded from
Ubuntu 11.10 (64 bit) on which both the internal and the headset mic were
working fine.
After the upgrade I discovered that neither Microphone is working !!!.
The headset speakers are working fine.

When I use Sound Recorder, I hear a very loud hum and a soft and very
soft and distorted mic sound, completely unusable!!!

If this cannot be resolved I will downgrade to 11.10 or install
  another distribution.
