Thanks for the bug report.
It looks like you don't have a driver installed for your Nvidia GPU so
that's the first thing to fix. Please open the 'Additional Drivers' app
and select an Nvidia driver, then reboot.
If the problem isn't fixed after that then please run:
lspci -k > lspci.txt
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

Title:
external display not detected
Status in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
1) Description: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release: 20.04
2) N: Unable to locate package pkgname
3) My current issue is the external display not being detected, but I
don't know how it will behave, given the different issues, at
different boots, being that the repairs/updates from the recovery
session may have changed something, don't know.
The timeline regarding the issue(s):
My laptop screen started showing what looked like a broken screen when
after booting, while on the log in screen (I could not see it). I shut
down and the started again, entered recovery mode (the newer version),
chose to recover, went to boot, after login saw the same broken screen
on the laptop and nothing on the external.
Shut down, start, and back to login screen, rebooted from there (as
per instructed somewhere along the process, don't remember where,
something like "if you can't go in, reboot from login menu").This time
the laptop screen remained unusable but was working on the external
monitor. Had the laptop working for hours and then it froze.
Shut down, start and the same thing, broken laptop screen, this time
no external monitor recognized, as before.
Shut down, start and now, for the first time the laptop screen works
but the external monitor is not recognized. Changing the hdmi cable
from a usb-c hub to the hdmi port, the screen brightness got a lot
dimmer, but nothing on the settings->display menu.
My current issue is the external display not being detected, but I
don't know how it will behave, given the different issues, at
different boots, being that the repairs/updates from the recovery
session may have changed something, don't know.
4) External monitor recognized and working
