Title:
Random sound and volume outputs when multiple audio hardware is
  enabled

Status in mate-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This is an intermittant problem that I have been having:

When using a laptop with an analog soundcard that is not plugged but
has a hdmi cable plugged into that same laptop's hdmi port, it
sometimes(once every 5 times maybe?) happen that MATE remembers to
default to hdmi output audio hardware as it was lastly used at last
session shutdown. The rest of the time, MATE defaults back to using
the analog audio output as default hardware.
