The error message is now clearer (IMHO of course): $ rsync rsync://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/hardy/alpha-6/hardy-desktop-i386.iso rsync: change_dir "/releases/hardy/alpha-6" (in cdimage) failed: No such file or directory (2) rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1677) [Receiver=3.1.3]
It now explicitly mentions being unable to change directory to "/releases/hardy/alpha-6" which is a good hint about the problem IMHO. As such, marking as fix released. ** Changed in: rsync (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201344 Title: rsync prints out non-informative error messages Status in rsync package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: rsync This is what a user obtains if facing a timeout using rsync: > $ rsync rsync://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/hardy/alpha-6/hardy-desktop-i386.iso > . > rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(454) [receiver=2.6.9] It should print out a much clear message so the user knows what's going on. ps. saw this on package source. it has the bug mail as: Bugs: mailto:ubuntu-us...@lists.ubuntu.com is this correct?
