closing this rather old issue. sorry for not addressing this earlier. Please could you recheck with the recent 14.04 LTS or 14.10 releases and reopen the issue if the problem persists?

It all works fine until it hits a breakpoint in a particular function. As part of updating the local variables Eclipse issues this command: whatis (int &)x At that point gdb dies with a SIGABRT. I managed to download debugging symbols for gdb and attach gdb to a running gdb, the backtrace is attached.
