Title:
Application lens not launching on log in

Status in Unity:
  Incomplete
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Ok I have an issue with the application lens in Unity...

Most of the time the applications refuses to start when Ubuntu boots,
  which means no application searching...

doing a "unity --replace" fixes the issue until shutdown... so I
created a script that runs unity --replace on boot... however when
unity starts back up from the script, no launcher, no system tray at
  the top or anything loads...

Does anyone have an idea on either

  a) what's going on with the script or
  b) how to fix the application lens so none of this is an issue...
