 1. i installed  a brandnew 'crucial ssd' on this 'toshiba satelite A215-S4697'
- hoping that disk speed would solve the problem
2. first distro installed was 'zorin 9 lite'3. the original installation did
not flicker: kernel 3.13.32 (??)4. the updated kernel version flickered badly:
kernel 3.13.46
'zorin' is based on 'ubuntu 14.04 xfce'

 1. the same still holds for all ubuntu 14.04.2 - and all of its derivatives2.
the flickering does not exist in the very first - and original - kernel of
ubuntu 14.043. the flickering does not exist in 'linux mint 17.0' - since
'mint' does not change kernels, the way ubuntu does

hansie, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1405277

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
