Public bug reported: The setting for "Dash Search" to choose between "Phone only" and "Phone and Internet" should be removed. This setting made sense in Unity 7, but it's not really handled by the new scopes framework and moreover, it doesn't really make sense in Unity8 which doesn't have "search everything" Home screen; user now has full control over what scopes are searched (by adding them to favorites or enabling child scopes via settings of aggregator scopes).
In other words, the current function of "Dash Search" setting is pretty much broken (only smartscopesproxy honors it, 3rd party or local scopes ignore it). This leads to user confusion and a bunch of bug reports such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/today-scope/+bug/1440576 ** Affects: ubuntu-system-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: unity-scopes-api (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Pawel Stolowski (stolowski) Status: Confirmed ** Also affects: unity-scopes-api (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: unity-scopes-api (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Pawel Stolowski (stolowski) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity-scopes-api in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1456253 Title: [security/privacy] Dash search setting should be removed Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in unity-scopes-api package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The setting for "Dash Search" to choose between "Phone only" and "Phone and Internet" should be removed.
